Christmas Village

Hi!  Suzz here.

How about a Christmas Village you can use for Place Settings, Gift Card Holders or just adorable Candy Treats?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I started with two sets of the  Basically Bare – Happy Little Houses:

and the Mixed Media Card Set:

which I assemble together using the Paperie Binderie:

which looked like this:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All of these items are available in the Basically Bare Retail Shop.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Vintage Deer, Bottle Trees, Jolee Stickers, October Afternoon, Authentique

I used the die cuts as templates to cut out different pattern papers to decorate the houses.  I attached the papers to the house and sponged with a touch of white paint.  I cut sides from the mixed media cards as well as my bases to my houses.  I used hot glue to attach the houses to the base.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

October Afternoon, Authentique, Jolees Stickers, Idea-ology Seasonal Chit Chat, Tim Holtz trim

I added hot glue mixed with crystal glitter to the base.  I added embossing paste for snow on the roof and door frames.  I sprinkled that with glitter as well to give it a shimmer.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Authentique, October Afternoon – Make it Merry, Washi Tape

I had previously misted tissue paper with snowflakes and used that for stuffing in the center of the gift box.

Now I have four gift card holders and candy treat containers for last-minute gifts.  These easily could be hung on the tree as well with a few hole punches in the roof and some glittery twine.

Happy Holidays!

On Angel Wings and Hearts

Hi!  Suzz here.

Christmas preparations are well  under way in our house.  I am busy getting prepared with decorations, presents and baking.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Hearts Dies, Tim Holtz Layering Stencil – Doily, Wendy Vecchi – Gold Embossing Paste, Twine, Button, Heidi Swapp – Color Shine – Pink

I was looking at the charming canvas hearts from the Hearts Die Cuts and thought how sweet it would be to create ornaments using two of them sewn together.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Heart Dies

I started with the Basically Bare – Die Cut Hearts and stenciled on gold embossing paste with a doily pattern.  I let that dry and then sprayed the canvas with a mist.  After it was done the mist was darker than I wanted so I added a hint of white acrylic paint over the surface to lighten the background color.  I let that dry and then hand stitched the edges to add an additional rustic feel.

You will need a heavier needle to stitch the canvas.  If I had a machine and knew how to use it I would have used it to stitch the edges!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Dress Form Die Cuts, Memory Box – Dream Stamp, Ranger Archival Ink – Black, Idea-Ology – Gold Shimmery Paper, Lace, Ranger Distress Stain Spray – Tarnished Brass, Paper Flowers, Stampendous Gold Glitter

For my second ornament I used the Basically Bare – Dress Form Die Cut and the Basically Bare – Angel Wings.

I stained the lace with a gold mist.  I painted the dress form and stamped over the painted form with a text stamp.  I then created a Christmas outfit with a touch of holly.  I punched a hole in the top and tied on a piece of twine.

I am happy that I have three ornaments which can be attached to gifts and the recipient can hang them on their tree after they open their gifts.

All the product is available for retail purchase in the Basically Bare Online Store.

Twinkle Twinkle

Happy Thursday!  Suzz here.

I had fun over our Thanksgiving break playing with the Mixed Media Card set.   I created a series of ATCs.  The different media offered in the card set gave me different platforms to try ideas.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare Mixed Media Card Set, Stampendous Silver Luxe Mix, Idea-Ology Chit Chat Seasonal, Inkadinkado, Black Gesso, Deco-Art Metallic Paint

This ATC is chipboard which gave me extra durability to layer on paint, embossing paste, more paint and some sequins, snowflakes and beads.  After I had glued on a mix of embellishments I coated them in black gesso.  I then added the mix of glitter and silver stars over the background.  I stamped the buck and gave him glittery antlers.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Mixed Media Card Set, Penny Black, Memory Box Stencil, Sequins, Memory Box – O Holy Night, Silver Embossing Paste, Blue Stain Spray, USPS Stamp

The base for this ATC is  cardstock  from the Mixed Media Card Set.  I stenciled on the stars with silver embossing paste.  I flicked on the mix of navy and teal spots.  I then took the larger sticker that comes with a set of stamps and cut it out to place it as my focal image.  The sentiment was stamped and cut to layer on.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Mixed Media Card Set, Tim Holtz Layering Stencil, Stampendous Silver Luxe Mix, Penny Black – Robin’s Kingdom, Paper Artsy – Paint, Black Gesso, Gems

For my last ATC, I used another chipboard ATC from the Mixed Media Cards set.  I wanted to layer on paint and embossing past and the chipboard keeps is sturdy.   I embossed the holiday words using silver embossing paste.  I layered on splashes of paint and glittery goodness. I then stamped the sweet bunnies and cut them out to pop them on the ATC.

These three ATC’s can be placed on a card, use them as tags on gifts or trade them with my artsy friends for one of their ATCs.

Don’t forget that you can purchase all the fabulous Basically Bare products in the retail store here.

Christmas Days

Hi Suzz here.  I am back to share more of the Flip Advent Calendar made from the awesome Basically Bare Easy Easel.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Easy Easel, Hero Arts – Snowflake, Madonna and Child, Idea-Ology Tissue Tape, Momento, Stampendous – Numbers, Tsukineko – Gold Glitz

I finished my album off with a few religious images.  I painted a touch of gesso on the paper and stamped the image using a black archival ink.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Basically Bare – Mixed Media Card, Scalloped Tags, Kaisercraft – paper, Stampendous Numbers

I had some beautiful paper that looked like a stained glass window and what better way to frame it than to take the Acetate Scalloped tag and lay it over the top. I applied a touch of alcohol inks and blending solution to the acetate tag to create a warm aged feel.  I edged the tag with gold krylon pen to gild it.  I then attached the paper to the back side of the tag. I added a gold star to the top to cover the hole of the tag.

This is the Basically Bare Scalloped tag decorated with a mix of papers and a few tiny stamped touches.

With the acetate it is tricky to place things in a way it looks visually pleasing on both sides of the calendar. I covered the word Joy with the snowflake. The buck actually was stamped on the reverse side and becomes  a reverse image on the back.

Starry Starry Night

Hi!  Suzz here.

I have been wanting to create a journal to use for colors and capturing ideas, techniques or color combinations to use at a later time.

The Artful Journal – 6″ x 9″ is the perfect size to carry along with me when I am out and about and fits nicely anywhere when I want to jot down an idea, sketch something or just create a page.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Which started looking like this:

6″x9″ Artful Journal

I decided to use one of the pages and apply it to the cover.   I took one of the pages from inside the journal and inked it up with a mix of colors.  They all look very monochromatic when done but I actually started with this mix of colors:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was inking up some color combinations on my journal page and this one was a lovely blend of colors and I decided to smear them onto my craft mat add a bit of water.

I laid the journal page in the inky mix and pulled it up.  I then heat dried it with my heat gun.  I repeated this about 10 times.  This gives the lovely water marks and spots with different shades of color.

Once I had my pretty golden background with all the lovely splotches I decided I needed a sentiment and there is this lovely one from Impression Obsession, that I have had for awhile that hadn’t seen ink yet.  I stamped it in the center of the page using black water resistant ink.

Next I wanted some stars for my golden background and I knew I had some beautiful ones from the Celestial Shapes Die Cuts.

Celestial Shapes

I used the Acetate stars to accent my cover.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I used alcohol inks and blending solution.  3 drops of rust and caramel alcohol ink and 3 drops of alcohol blending solution.  Dabbed onto the surface to add the color.  Usually I wait a minute and let the first coat dry on the star and then repeat with the same inky applicator without re-applying any ink.  This gives a nice splotchy effect on the acetate.

I also used gold embossing paste and the Memory Box star stencil to add a smattering of golden stars and circles across the background.

After that dried I stamped script (Darkroom Door Eclectic Stamp) using Tsukineko Delicata Gold Glitz ink to stamp that script on the stars and the background randomly.  This ink needs extra drying time or to be heat set. be careful with your acetate as it will curl up if it is heated too much.  I let those dry naturally.

I then colored white twine with the gold ink and added a hint of the gold on the binder rings.  I heat set the gold on the binder rings as that surface would not hold the ink without being dried. When I was finished with my page I adhered it to the cover.

I wanted to mention I loved how the paper in the journal took the colors from the die inks.  Here is a another page of the journal which I used to put together a fun bright color palette:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Carved Pumpkin, Twisted Citron, Wilted Violet, Tuxedo Black

Remember you can purchase the journal and the celestial shapes in the Basically Bare on-line store.

I love how the paper enriches the colors.  I am looking forward to putting more ideas and colors into my new art journal!

Happy Halloween

Hi There!  Suzz here bringing a little Halloween fun.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I am busy preparing Halloween cards and tags for Halloween.  I wanted a tag to attach to a gift being sent off to college.  The Scalloped Tag Set has so many choices I had to try to decide which medium I wanted to use.

After I decided that I wanted to use the corrugated cardboard decorating the tag was easy.

I started with a base of white gesso over the surface.  After I painted it and let it dry I decided to distress the tag and tore off portions of the top layer of the cardboard to give it a vintage look.   The next step was to stamp the Halloween ads over the painted surface.

Then a stamped owl with a few pieces of vintage ephemera and a few finishing touches and now I have a tag to attach to a goodie bag.

Don’t forget you can purchase any of the wonderful Basically Bare products including the tags at the Basically Bare Shop!

Products:  Basically Bare – Scalloped Tag Set,  Idea-Ology – Halloween Ephemera, Stampers Anonymous – Poisonous, White Gesso, Idea-Ology – Remnant Rub-On Halloween, Black Archival Ink

Happy Halloween!

Home Sweet Home – Part II

Hi!  Suzz here.  I am back to share the other side of my album today.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI started with the fun Rowdy Roadster album and used papers, paints, stamps and embellishments to decorate it celebrating family and home.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI covered the tag with pattern paper and layered in a doily with a photo of a family.  I added a few embellishments of flowers, brads and tissue tape.

The album opened up which showcases the next page which is acetate.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI painted the acetate with acrylic paints.  I painted, smeared and wiped off coats of paint and then splattered more paint over the top.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I stamped a flourish using paint on this side and you can see the sentiment peeking through from the other side.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe next page is covered in pattern paper and has a hand painted heart.  The keyhole and key were stamped over the painted heart with a chain added to the key for an embellishment.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhen you flip the page you now get to the fun envelope to store mementos.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe envelope was accented with tissue tape and another tag cut from pattern paper.  The butterfly was stamped and colored on the tag.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA few touches of lace trim were added and the word Home was stamped onto the tag.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The next page is the half circle which is covered in pattern paper.  The image and sentiment were stamped and a flourish added with a hint of embossing paste.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhen you flip the page you are back to the beginning with the acetate house that started the whole Home Sweet Home theme.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe heart and house were aligned to the front cover.  The mini house is from the Happy Little Houses embellishments.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWell I hope you enjoyed seeing the reverse side of the album!

Home Sweet Home

Hi!  Suzz here to share my first DT project for Basically Bare!  I am thrilled to be creating with all the awesome products available at the store: Basically Bare.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My first project was to use the awesome Rowdy Roadster Album to create a mini album.

I love that it has so many different mediums and shapes in the album to play with.  When I first looked at it I thought what if I turn it and make it into a house.  That idea inspired my whole album.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The first page I added a roof made of pattern paper an a door within a door using the Happy Little Houses.

Next up is a lovely circle shape which I was able to cover in paper and add a large sketched heart.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I stamped a rustic scene and added a few stickers as my sentiment.

Next up is a fun envelope that can hold all kind of goodies.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I painted the envelope with a hint of pink and added a stamped image along with a touch of embossing.

the next page is a lovely piece of corrugated cardboard and I layered it with some pretty papers and a stamped image and sentiment.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I finished the front of the album with more lovely papers and embellishments.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Next week I will show you the reverse side of my album and how it looks all put together.
