Winter Wonderland

Hi everyone!  This will be my last post as a member of the Basically Bare Design Team.  It’s been a great three years, but I’ve decided to resign.  For my final post as a designer here, I have created a wintery tag for you.  It’s nice and cold outside and I thought my tag should reflect the weather (well, it doesn’t snow where I live, but one can dream).

I used a watercolor tag from Basically Bare’s Scalloped Tag set,

2015-12-13 15.23.06

  1. Spray the tag with Art Anthology Siesta Key then set it aside to dry.
  2. Tear scraps of copy paper into pieces that resemble mounds of snow.
  3. Emboss with Stampendous Chunky White embossing powder.  Set aside.
  4. Die cut three trees from the and spray or paint them with dark green.  Add embossing powder to tips of trees and emboss with more Chunky White powder to simulate slow.
  5. Lay out the embossed pieces of paper and your trees so they look to be sticking up out of the snow,  Carefully glue everything down.
  6. Stamps Winter Wonderland at the top of the tag in black Versafine ink.

A Joyful (and easy) Banner

Hello again!

Jessica here and I have a fun project to share with you today. I don’t know about you, but I don’t usually get to do a lot of crafting during the holidays. It’s all hosting parties, taking finals, celebrating my birthday and scrambling to get a million things done before Christmas. When I do have a chance to craft, I like to make decor for my house. This year I decided to make a banner for my front porch and was inspired by the Oh So Mini Album in the rounded shape. I had multiple pages made from chipboard in my stash and I thought they’d be perfect to use to make this banner rather than using them as album pages. Now, those Oh So Mini sets come in a few shapes and it would be so fun to mix and match them to make a fun banner for any occasion. I decided to make this one because I had an empty frame on my front porch that was just calling out for something festive and sparkly.

DSC_0840 DSC_0845 DSC_0848 DSC_0847 DSC_0849 DSC_0843 DSC_0850

I kept things affordable by using diecuts and flowers from my stash. Those pinwheels add a lot of dimension at a cost of almost nothing. I also added in some acrylic Fanciful Frames behind the letters. The acrylic adds some sparkle on its own, but I added some snowy white and silver glass glitters to the top of them after running them through my adhesive machine. The letters were actually just some that I typed up in my word processing program, printed out on cardstock, and cut out before attaching them with some foam adhesive. I think that stringing it all on that tinsel trim just makes it. I love the way it all came together.

Well, I hope that you all have had some time to be creative this season. I know it helps put me in a good mood! You can check out all of the Basically Bare products in the online store and you can see projects and happenings on the Basically Bare Facebook page.

Have a very happy holiday season!

Mixed Media Junk Journal

Hi crafty friends! I wanted to make something that wasn’t Xmas themed even though it is coming up. I like to be different ! Anyhow, I have been wanting to do a Junk Journal using the Timeless Tab Album from Basically Bare Online Shop

I first took it apart and papered some of the pages from the album, I also used the inserts from the Prima Mixed Media 7×9 Album. Which includes paper tags, plain canvas sheets, watercolor papers, resist canvas sheets, plastic sleeves, double sided card stock, photo insert sheets. I also added some double sided designer folders from a Heidi Swap pkg I had in my stash. I left it blank because this will be going to a friend for Xmas. I will post a video link once I upload it , it will contain the rest of the pages that aren’t pictured here. I didn’t want this blog to be too long. The papers that I used were some of my favorite from The Paper Studio, Haberdashery & Kellerkurtz&Company .

In the above photo collage are some of the pages from my album. I also used one of the adorable frames from Basically Bare called Fanciful Frames  , I used one of the chipboard ones that I embossed in Black embossing powder. I loved how it looked on the front cover page. I added a tiny doily with a ivory flat back pearl to accent the frame. I hot glued it on, after I had already glued some wide vintage lace and a beautiful vintage appliqué . I will be posting a link to my video that shows a more extensive look at this journal . I hope you like it and will order your self this or other selections of albums from the Basically Bare Online Store

“12 Days of Christmas”

Hi crafty friends!! I am FINALLY here to bring you my 3rd project that was for the month of November. Unfortunetly I have been under the weather and also hospitalized for a little so I fell behind. I actually was almost done with my project when I got sick . So luckily I didn’t have a whole lot to catch up on. Anyhow, here is the 1st half of the project that I have made. I am using the theme song “12 Days of Christmas” . I have some rubber stamps that have each of the numbers (ex: 5 Golden Rings…6 French Hens….etc.. So I was anxious to use them for the first time on this project.

I began with the plain sheet of the 12X12 Corrugated Cardboard that Basically Bare carries. I decided to paper it with DCWV “The Christmas Combo Stack”, I love these papers for many reasons, one is that they are sturdy, two the colors are beautiful and three they can be used just as a layout just like I decided to do. I got an idea that I would make it like a layout / peek-a-boo album. If that makes any sense to you. In my mind it does. So I papered both sides and then I added the pages off of one of the Ringed Binders , I used the “Bracket Album”. If I post every  single detail that I did to this, I’ll have too long of a blog post lol but I did some spraying with Lindy’s Sprays, I used some of the thicker gold embossing powder because I didn’t have any thinner one. I also incorporated a theme from an online game I play, it’s kind of looking for hidden objects, so since the embossing powder was kinda of thick on the stamped images, you can kinda tell where the images are of the 1-6 “12 Days of Christmas ” are at. The numbers are easy to make out just the image it’s self is tricky. But if you know the song, then it shouldn’t be too hard. Anyhow here are the rest of the process pictures. I will be making another page for the rest of the 7-12 in my next project. These corrugated pkgs. come with (2) pages. I hope you get what I tried doing. Isn’t that strange when you know in your mind what your trying to create but sometimes others don’t?! Lol, just be open minded 😉 and you yourself can create something outside the box using the products from this great online store Basically Bare!!

Words and Pictures Tags

Good morning everyone!  I’ve got a couple of tags I made with the Basically Bare Scalloped Tag Set.

2015-11-08 14.10.23

For this one, I gesso’d a cardboard tag and then coated it with Art Anthology Chocolate Sorbet.  I then added my picture and ran twine all around the edges.  Next, I cut out “You Can Do This”, sprayed it with Salted Caramel and used my Xyron to adhere it to the tag.  I then added faux stitching around the image with a black Sharpie, glued on a cowboy hat charge and a few doo-dads I had laying around and it’s done!

2015-11-08 14.11.40

For this tag (which we carry but isn’t currently in the shop), I used one made from watercolor paper.  I misted water over the tag, sprayed with Barbie and Grass and dried.  Next I added the image and the words.  I cut a piece of Diamond Wrap (available in floral supply stores) and used it to edge the tag.  Finally I added faux stitching around the edges with my black Sharpie and tied on some fiber.

Two quick and easy tags that I absolutely love (the top one is in my office at work).

Starry Starry Night

Hi!  Suzz here.

I have been wanting to create a journal to use for colors and capturing ideas, techniques or color combinations to use at a later time.

The Artful Journal – 6″ x 9″ is the perfect size to carry along with me when I am out and about and fits nicely anywhere when I want to jot down an idea, sketch something or just create a page.

Which started looking like this:

6″x9″ Artful Journal

I decided to use one of the pages and apply it to the cover.   I took one of the pages from inside the journal and inked it up with a mix of colors.  They all look very monochromatic when done but I actually started with this mix of colors:

I was inking up some color combinations on my journal page and this one was a lovely blend of colors and I decided to smear them onto my craft mat add a bit of water.

I laid the journal page in the inky mix and pulled it up.  I then heat dried it with my heat gun.  I repeated this about 10 times.  This gives the lovely water marks and spots with different shades of color.

Once I had my pretty golden background with all the lovely splotches I decided I needed a sentiment and there is this lovely one from Impression Obsession, that I have had for awhile that hadn’t seen ink yet.  I stamped it in the center of the page using black water resistant ink.

Next I wanted some stars for my golden background and I knew I had some beautiful ones from the Celestial Shapes Die Cuts.

Celestial Shapes

I used the Acetate stars to accent my cover.

I used alcohol inks and blending solution.  3 drops of rust and caramel alcohol ink and 3 drops of alcohol blending solution.  Dabbed onto the surface to add the color.  Usually I wait a minute and let the first coat dry on the star and then repeat with the same inky applicator without re-applying any ink.  This gives a nice splotchy effect on the acetate.

I also used gold embossing paste and the Memory Box star stencil to add a smattering of golden stars and circles across the background.

After that dried I stamped script (Darkroom Door Eclectic Stamp) using Tsukineko Delicata Gold Glitz ink to stamp that script on the stars and the background randomly.  This ink needs extra drying time or to be heat set. be careful with your acetate as it will curl up if it is heated too much.  I let those dry naturally.

I then colored white twine with the gold ink and added a hint of the gold on the binder rings.  I heat set the gold on the binder rings as that surface would not hold the ink without being dried. When I was finished with my page I adhered it to the cover.

I wanted to mention I loved how the paper in the journal took the colors from the die inks.  Here is a another page of the journal which I used to put together a fun bright color palette:

Carved Pumpkin, Twisted Citron, Wilted Violet, Tuxedo Black

Remember you can purchase the journal and the celestial shapes in the Basically Bare on-line store.

I love how the paper enriches the colors.  I am looking forward to putting more ideas and colors into my new art journal!

Elegant yet Vintage Tag & Easel Set

Hi my crafty friends! Today I want to share with you this tag and easel combo set I created! I of course used one of my favorite paper collections, some beautiful laces, a little bit of Bling, & of course some wonderful products from Basically Bare!!  I will get started showing most of my process! Enjoy!!

  • I first began by altering one of the adorable Prima Julie Nutting Tags, its size is 3.5 x 8.5 but I trimmed it just a tad. I then chose my papers which are two different paper collections but are yet similar. They are both from the Paper Studio, “Haberdashery ” & “Kellerkurtz&Company “, like I said they have similar papers the only difference is the Haberdashery is a Kraft paper and the Kellerkurtz&Company is a very thin design paper. I chose which one I wanted to adhere on my tag, I used my Scotch ATG to adhere both front and back of the tag. I then used some Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Ink ” Black Soot” to distress all of the edges of my tag. I then chose the smallest the dress forms  from Basically Bare which they do come in all sizes and different materials. Dress Forms  image
  • With this I applied some mod podge and adhered some vintage book papers that I had. I applied the same distress inks around the dress form then I had a small corset clipboard die cut that a friend of mine had gifted me so I embossed it using the Lindy’s embossing powder in ” Midnight Pewter”. As I let that cool off I chose some beautiful laces from my stash. A black embroidered ruffle trim. & a Pearl light caramel colored Venice lace that has a beautiful design on it. I used Beacon Fabri-tac to adhere the laces. I applied the embossed corset then added a little bit of BLING to the center belt line of the corset then a small strand of pearls with lace as a necklace. I stamped on some images/ sentiments using a Spanish themed stamp set that I have called “Dilo En Espanol- Hecho Con Amor” ( Say It In Spanish- Made with Love) By: www. Retro I then applied some Ranger Stickles in Gold around the stamped images. Last I tied some Black/ Gold seam binding on top of my tag. *Note: I also made a box from the Haberdashery Kraft paper using my scoreboard. I will be doing a tutorial on it. Will post here when I do. **image
  • image
  • After making this I decided to make a little something extra so I decided on the  Basically Bare Pre Assembled Album (Easel) image
  • I began by taking it apart from the cinch binder it comes with. I prefer doing this to adhere my papers to give it a neater, clean look I guess you can say. I don’t own a Cinch Binder or Zutter so I just holes of the paper with my Crop-A-Dile. it works great! Ok back to my project! I then traced all of the chipboard sheets that’s come in different sizes on to different design papers from The Paper Studio “Kellerkurtz&Company ” as I had mentioned before I decided to use the same papers on this as well. I used the Prima Distresser  and the Ranger Distresser on all the edges and then once adhered to the chipboard I used The Tim Holtz Ranger Distress Inks in ” Vintage Photo” & ” Black Soot” in the edges. image
  • After all the papers where adhered using my ATG, I began making some pockets with some wide laces so that I could use some small tags that I had cut out from the same paper line. I distressed the edges on them too using ” “Vintage Photo” . Once the laces dried from using Fabri-tac, I began to embellish using a variety of small cabachons, a few more of those embossed chipboard die cuts my friend Amy Love had gifted me for my bday this past May. I also used a beautiful pink sequined appliqué on the last page. Along with other small embellishments. I did leave some of the pages blank with no pocket to be used as a photo mat. I just added a small embellishment on those. I did however use a couple of different die cuts from Basically Bare!! I used Wings & Hearts
  • image image
  • I Used the small chipboard heart, I embossed it using Lindy’s Embossing Powder ” Hibiscus Rose Orange”  & the smallest of the chipboard wings in ” Midnight Pewter ” They look GREAT!!
  • I apologize that this post was so long but I would love it if you got some inspiration and / or ideas out of it!! ” Romantic Shabby Lace Book Binder”

  • Hello everyone! Today I am bringing you a project that I am really hoping that you can get some kind of inspiration from.  I was very excited when I received  this in my design team package because I immediately noticed how sturdy this album was and I really wanted it to be something other than your typical photo album , scrapbook album, etc. I have seen different types of Lace Books, Doily Books, Fabric Books, but I wanted something to store the laces that I will purposely skip by when looking thru my drawer of laces only because they are the one’s that are soooo stunning (yes I know all laces are) but these are the one’s you don’t want to use in your projects only because I guess you feel maybe you will never come across them again, or idk what kind of silly misconception we have for doing this , that word everyone knows and isn’t ashamed to even say it lol (HOARDING)! image
  • I decided that this Artful Album would be the perfect size and I really like how sturdy it is. Here is the beginning of its transformation.  This is the 8.5 X 11 binder (before) image
  • I began by applying a coat of  white acrylic gesso to the edges that I would be painting.  image
  • Then I painted the edges using Craft Smart Light Pink Acrylic Paint. I only painted the edges because I would be applying some design paper to the album. image
  • I then picked out some beautiful papers from DCWV ” The Primrose” stack & from Craft&You “Vintage Time” I adhered one beautiful pattern on the outer panels of the album. Then the beautiful printed paper in the interior panels,
  •  imageimage
  • I then chose this stunning white fabric to cover the whole album
  • image
  • I then began working on the inside. There are 3 tabbed chipboard inserts that come with the album it’s self. I had also received the Add-on Expansion pack, that you can get separately where I was able to get another piece of the same tabbed chipboard. Add-on Expansion pack. With these I made a template of a spool shaped inserts to use to wrap my favorite Venice laces/trims. Here is how I made the templates then adhered pattern paper to them as well followed by distress inks around the edges ( Vintage Photo & Victorian Velvet) image
  • I also had some other templates that were smaller to hold my smaller laces , so I just made the holes on them to align with the binder. You can’t see it very well on the photo but I used the acrylic piece that came in the expansion pack at the beginning of the laces. I wanted to just keep them separate from the front inner part of the album where I added a small colorful clothes pin to hold some journaling papers, just for added decor as well in the middle part of the inner binding I used this stunning ruffle trim and added some small rose cabochons.
  •  imageimage

Finally on the outside of the album, I definitely wanted to use one of the ” Basically Embellies” dress forms. They come 3 to a pack , sm, med, lg.  Dress form die cuts. So I traced the dress form on the same floral paper that I used in the inside of the album. Adhered it with mod podge and added some beautiful white ruffled lace and pink lace with embroidered roses on it and added an adorable bow on front for a more dainty look.  I also used a different pink embroidered trim on the edge of the album along with some pearl flat back trim. On the outer binding I sprayed some rosette trim that was white with some Lindy’s sprays ( Plumeria Pink) and added some ivory lg. Flat back pearls.  As an added little something, I added this lg. Handmade stick pin. imageIimage

You can find all of the products that I used and more  at . I truly hope that you like my project and that the many uses of these albums is endless. I know this will be one of my most treasured pieces and I hope I inspired you to think “outside the box” Peace, love , & many hugs!!

Home Sweet Home

Hi!  Suzz here to share my first DT project for Basically Bare!  I am thrilled to be creating with all the awesome products available at the store: Basically Bare.

My first project was to use the awesome Rowdy Roadster Album to create a mini album.

I love that it has so many different mediums and shapes in the album to play with.  When I first looked at it I thought what if I turn it and make it into a house.  That idea inspired my whole album.

The first page I added a roof made of pattern paper an a door within a door using the Happy Little Houses.

Next up is a lovely circle shape which I was able to cover in paper and add a large sketched heart.

I stamped a rustic scene and added a few stickers as my sentiment.

Next up is a fun envelope that can hold all kind of goodies.

I painted the envelope with a hint of pink and added a stamped image along with a touch of embossing.

the next page is a lovely piece of corrugated cardboard and I layered it with some pretty papers and a stamped image and sentiment.

I finished the front of the album with more lovely papers and embellishments.

Next week I will show you the reverse side of my album and how it looks all put together.
